Leading to Serve: House Elections
Every year at Alegra, a very special moment takes place: the House Captain elections. This tradition invites the oldest Prep School students (Year 6) to step forward and take on a leadership role grounded in service, generosity, and teamwork.
At Alegra, the House system encourages students to experience a sense of belonging, camaraderie, and healthy competition. Each House is identified with a virtue and an animal that symbolizes its spirit. Beyond points or prizes, what truly matters is learning to work together, support one another, and grow with generosity and joy.
A Very Creative Election Campaign
For one week, students work on an election campaign to present their proposals to their peers. During break times, they set up a table and use their creativity to explain their ideas. The process culminates in the presentation of candidacies. Each student has 40 seconds to convince the audience. With nerves, enthusiasm, and plenty of heart, they demonstrate that leadership is also about setting an example through simplicity and approachability.
After the speeches, it’s time to vote. Each student chooses the Captain and Vice-Captain who best represent the values of their House. It is an experience that teaches the importance of trust, empathy, and service to others.
A Very Special Breakfast
The newly elected Captains and Vice-Captains celebrate their appointment with a breakfast alongside Alegra’s Headmistress, Marta Jiménez de los Galanes, who listened firsthand to their proposals and ideas.

1. Elephants House (Strength)
Symbolised by the majestic elephant, this House embodies the virtue of strength. Elephants students strive to overcome challenges with perseverance and courage.
2. Horses House (Generosity)
The horse, a symbol of grace and generosity. Horses students live the spirit of giving and serving others.
Lions House (Courage)
The lion, brave and determined, is the emblem of this House. Lions students face challenges with strength and optimism.
Wolves House (Loyalty)
The wolf, symbol of unity and fidelity. Wolves students cultivate a deep sense of loyalty and camaraderie, supporting one another in both good and difficult times.
