The Harvest Festival: Solidarity in Action

This week, the entire Prep School gathered to celebrate one of the most endearing traditions of the first term: the Harvest Festival — a time to give thanks, to share, and to live out solidarity.

Boxes Filled with Joy

Throughout the week, pupils from Lower Nursery to Year 6 brought their food donations for Cáritas to school — pasta, rice, milk, vegetables, non-perishable goods, biscuits, and many other items that filled the entrance halls of each building with colour, enthusiasm, and generosity. The boxes overflowed with food, a reflection of everyone’s joy and commitment.

On the day of the celebration, the entire Prep School came together to give thanks. Father Borja Díaz de Bustamante blessed the food, the pupils, and also those who would receive the donations. In his homily, he reminded everyone of the importance of sharing and of the deep, lasting joy it brings.

The pupils listened to the Gospel, and the choir sang a heartfelt rendition of “Look at the World.” The House Captains spoke on behalf of the whole Alegra community, expressing gratitude to the representatives of Cáritas. Indeed, the key word of the day was “thank you!”

Giving and Gratitude

After the ceremony, the House Captains and the older Junior pupils showed a true spirit of service, working together to load all the food into cars and accompany the delivery to Cáritas. It was a moving and proud moment to see the Cáritas storeroom filled — an image that captures what can be achieved when we live our school’s values to the fullest.

Each House shone with its own virtue: the Lions, with their leadership and courage; the Elephants, with their empathy and strength in service; the Horses, with their perseverance and teamwork; and the Wolves, with their characteristic loyalty. Together, they reflected the spirit of Alegra and the virtues our school strives to nurture every day.

Thanks to the generosity of our pupils and their families, the collection was a great success. The joy of giving could be seen on every face — a lesson that will remain with them long after they leave the classroom.

A heartfelt thank-you to all parents for their support, for accompanying their children in this act of solidarity, and for making possible experiences that educate not only the mind, but also the heart.

The Harvest Festival 2025: Growing in gratitude, solidarity and joy.
