Alegra ranked among the 100 Best Schools in Spain by El Mundo

Alegra British & International School has been included for the first time in the ranking “The 100 Best Schools in Spain” published by the national newspaper El Mundo, one of the country’s most respected education rankings.

In the 27th edition of the ranking, Alegra is placed 90th, joining for the first time the list of leading schools in Spain.

To compile this ranking, El Mundo evaluates schools according to 27 different criteria, including the educational model, academic performance, teaching quality, school resources, innovation in teaching, and institutional reputation.

A milestone in Alegra’s Journey

Alegra’s inclusion in this year’s ranking represents an important milestone in the development of the school’s educational project.

In the previous edition, the first year the school took part in the ranking, Alegra was recognised in the category of “Notable Schools”, a distinction awarded to schools that stand out for the quality of their educational approach and academic results.

Entering the list of the 100 Best Schools in Spain this year reflects the continued growth of the school and the progress made in recent years.

An international educational model

Alegra’s educational approach combines two highly regarded international academic systems.

In Early Years and Primary, students follow the English National Curriculum, while in Secondary and Sixth Form they study the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes: the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP).

This combination allows students to benefit from a rigorous academic education while developing essential skills such as critical thinking, research, and an international outlook, preparing them for admission to universities both in Spain and abroad.

The academic programme is complemented by a broad educational approach that integrates sport, music, innovation, and the development of character and personal virtues.

Strong academic results

The IB Diploma Programme is the academic pathway followed by all students in the final stage of their education at Alegra.

So far, the school has graduated six IB cohorts, with a total of 215 students. Across these cohorts, the average IB score is 34.6 out of 45, with an average university entrance grade of 11.9 out of 14.

Among these results, one particularly remarkable achievement occurred in the 2023–2024 academic year, when an Alegra student achieved the maximum possible university entrance score of 14 out of 14, equivalent to 45 out of 45 in the IB.

A shared achievement

More than a position in a ranking, this recognition is an opportunity to celebrate the daily work of the entire school community.

Alegra’s educational project is built on the dedication of its teachers, personalised guidance for every student, and a close partnership with families, ensuring an education that is academically demanding, internationally minded and focused on the holistic development of each student.

This achievement belongs to the teachers, staff, students and families who make up the Alegra community.

“This recognition encourages us to continue working with the same enthusiasm to offer our students a demanding, international education focused on the development of each individual.”
