A Window into the Working World: MYP 5 Careers Visits
Before the end of term, our MYP 5 pupils enjoyed a particularly valuable experience within Alegra’s Careers Guidance Programme: a day designed to bring them closer to the working world and help them look at their future with a broader perspective.
Divided into small groups according to their interests, they visited a range of professional environments: hospitals, law firms such as White & Case, the Spanish Congress of Deputies and Madrid City Council, consultancy, architecture and engineering companies, medical centres, financial institutions such as BBVA, foundations and even the MasterChef studio, among others.
One of this year’s most comprehensive visits was to BBVA. Accompanied by Alegra’s Head, Marta Jiménez de los Galanes, pupils gained an inside view of a major financial institution. The morning began with a welcome breakfast, followed by sessions on communication, global marketing, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and economic analysis.
The visit to Ciudad BBVA helped pupils understand the diversity of roles within an organisation of this kind and how very different disciplines connect to meet the challenges of a global business.
This is precisely the purpose of these visits: enabling pupils to discover professions from the inside, ask questions, broaden their horizons and understand that every professional journey is built gradually through education, effort and curiosity.
At Alegra, university and careers guidance goes beyond a single decision at the end of school. It is part of ongoing support that helps each pupil understand herself better, identify her strengths and reflect on the opportunities ahead.
Experiences like these enrich our pupils’ careers guidance, while also giving them a fresh perspective on the future and their ability to transform the world through work done well.
