Technology at school: not more or less, but better
At Alegra, every resource has its moment. Technology does too. Our Digital Policy is built on a simple idea: to use technology when it adds value to learning, for a clear purpose and in a way that suits our pupils’ age. We follow three principles: its use should be focused and planned, progressive, and educational.
Technology can help our pupils research, create and work in new ways. But having a tool available does not mean using it in every lesson. As with a book, a notebook or a conversation, what matters is choosing the resource that best serves what we want to teach.
01 · WHEN AND WHY
Planned
Technology is used at specific moments chosen by the teacher. Before bringing it into an activity, we consider what pupils will do with it, how long they will need it and what it will add. Some lessons benefit from a digital resource; others call for quiet reading, writing by hand, listening or discussion.
Technology therefore has a place in the classroom because it serves a purpose, not out of habit. Learning to use it also means knowing when to put it away.
02 · THE RIGHT APPROACH AT EVERY AGE
Progressive
A pupil’s relationship with technology changes as she grows. Its use is therefore adapted to each stage and introduced gradually, in line with her maturity and what she needs to learn. Supporting pupils through this process helps them develop good judgement and independence, step by step.
03 · THE DECIDING QUESTION
Educational
If a tool helps pupils understand an idea, research thoughtfully or complete a task that benefits from it, then using it makes sense. If another way of working better supports attention or understanding, we choose that instead.
The three principles work together: deciding when to use technology, adapting its use to each age and checking that it helps pupils learn. They guide the decisions we make in the classroom every day.
Educating pupils for the digital world means teaching them how to use its tools and recognise when they are useful. This is a responsibility shared by school and families. What pupils learn in the classroom is strengthened when they can also talk at home about how and why they use technology, especially as a tool for work rather than a source of entertainment.
The idea that guides us
At Alegra, technology serves learning.
We use it at the right moment, introduce it progressively and always have a clear educational purpose.
