Alegra’s success in the 2025 British Inspection

On 21st March, Alegra welcomed the official British inspection carried out by the National Association of British Schools in Spain (NABSS). The resulting report reaffirms the academic and formative excellence of our educational project, explicitly highlighting the quality of our teaching model, the high standards of our staff, and the personalised attention received by our pupils.

Below, we share the five most notable highlights from the report:

1 – A pedagogical model of excellence

The report strongly emphasises the quality of teaching across all stages “Teachers show good subject knowledge, plan their lessons to ensure effective use of time, have resources prepared to support the learning, and use display in the classroom to provide visual cues that reinforce key concepts and vocabulary.” This recognition confirms our commitment to rigorous, attentive, and tailored teaching to meet the needs of every pupil.

“The children are polite, welcoming and very enthusiastic when speaking about their learning, their teachers and their mentors. They are self-confident and proud of their school. They feel safe, respected and know who to speak to if they need any support. Pupils are resilient and positive in relation to their learning with a pupil commenting, ‘I don’t understand but I will’ about a task she was doing. “. Pupils’ behaviour and discipline within the school were described as exemplary. For this reason, the inspectors congratulated the teaching staff during the inspection day.

In addition, the report highlights the richness of classroom resources used to encourage active learning: High quality resources are available to meet the demands of the curriculum in all subject areas.” It specifically praises a mathematics lesson in which pupils carried out a hands-on investigation using trundle wheels, metre sticks, and rulers to measure objects and distances around the school, selecting the most appropriate units in each case.

2 – Assessment, marking and feedback

Another of the report’s strengths is the consistency and quality of marking and feedback: “Implementing a whole school marking policy has led to more consistent marking, better written and verbal feedback, and a higher standard of written work.” This approach, deeply rooted in our pedagogical philosophy, fosters reflection and strengthens meaningful learning. At Alegra, we place great importance on feedback, both written and oral (Verbal Feedback Week), for every activity our pupils complete. Each pupil is aware of her strengths and academic improvement goals, which are shared through regular one-to-one meetings with her teacher.

3 – Individual mentoring: the key to personal growth

The inspection also highlights the mentoring system (preceptuación) as one of Alegra’s distinctive features: “The mentors provide academic and emotional support for their mentees, discussing achievements and targets for improvement.” The school’s ethos was one of the most highly praised aspects throughout the entire report.
At Alegra, each pupil has a dedicated mentor (preceptora) who supports her academic and personal development in close partnership with families.

4 – Preparation for the transition from Year 6 to MYP

Inspectors were particularly impressed by the transition programme for Year 6 pupils as they move into the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP): Preparation for the transition to the Middle Years Programme (MYP) has taken place in Year 6, with pupils informed about the subjects they will be studying and a visit to the secondary building scheduled for term 3. This proactive approach promotes a smooth transition to the next educational phase.
This transition, a key step in their educational journey, takes place in a demanding academic and holistic environment that lays a strong foundation for the future.

5 – Proactivity, enthusiasm and a truly inspiring atmosphere

Beyond academic achievement, the report values the enthusiasm of our pupils, their commitment to learning, and their joy throughout the school day: “The pupils at Alegra School enjoy learning and are focused and enthusiastic in lessons. They are happy to share their ideas and discuss their learning and achievements. “ This vibrant, positive spirit felt across the campus is a hallmark of our school community.

The report also underlines the proactive attitude and dynamism of the whole educational team, driving the school’s continuous improvement.

Growth-focused recommendations

The report includes a number of general recommendations which reinforce our commitment to ongoing improvement. Among them are suggestions to continue investing in teacher training in computing and to further strengthen certain internal management procedures. We have embraced each of these suggestions as valuable opportunities to keep growing and to continue offering our pupils the best educational experience possible.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

This achievement would not have been possible without the continued effort of the entire Alegra community. We want to thank our pupils for their enthusiasm and commitment; our families for their trust and support, and especially all our teaching staff for their dedication and professionalism.

This success belongs to all of us—and it inspires us to keep growing together, with our eyes set firmly on the future.

British inspections in Spain are carried out by accredited bodies such as NABSS, in collaboration with the British Council. Their purpose is to ensure that the school meets the standards of the British education system at both pedagogical and organisational levels. These evaluations take place every four years and are a necessary condition for a school to maintain its status as a British-authorised centre.

It is a rigorous process that assesses every aspect of school life, from teaching and curriculum to safeguarding, school climate, and pupil wellbeing.

Alegra’s excellent results in this British Inspection are a clear affirmation of our commitment to educational excellence and personalised mentoring.
