At Alegra, we aim to offer our students a demanding intellectual education that promotes hard work and personal effort. The development of these skills and attitudes ensures that each of our students has the opportunity of realising their full potential. We have a team of highly professional and inspiring teachers who have profound knowledge not only in their specialist subjects but a knowledge of each individual student to guide and motivate them according to their own talents and abilities. Individualised learning at its best.
At Alegra, the curriculum begins in Infants (from age 3) to Baccalaureate (age 18).
Alegra Prep School (from age 3 to 10) follows the English National Curriculum. The Secondary and Baccalaureate stage is an IB World School, delivering the Middle Years Program (MYP) in Secondary, and the Diploma Program (DP) in Baccalaureate.
These two systems (British system and International system) share a common educational philosophy; students are at the centre of their own learning. Both systems share a core of rigorous academic teaching and learning, that deepens the development of global competencies and enables our students to acquire life-long skills which are essential to flourishing in the 21st Century. Both systems are further enriched with programs such as the “Lectoescritura Program” in Prep School, STEAM curriculum and the Work Experience Programme in Secondary.
Everything we do at Alegra ensures that the students are at the heart of their own learning.
What are the characteristics of the Alegra educational system?
Our students learn to express themselves with ease be it in speech or in written communication, being articulate with the for synthesis. Public Speaking in the Primary School and Speech and Debate in the MYP are a fundamental part of the Alegra curriculum. Students learn to speak in public correctly, confidently, and with a natural flair, both in Spanish and in English.
The creative ability of our students is fostered in subjects such as Art & Design, Music, Drama, and Dance. It is enhanced as our students move up the school through problem- solving, teamwork, and participation in our annual Opera production.
Our students are taught to appreciate the relevance of data and to discriminate between sources. This is accompanied by a focus on reading comprehension and the use of new technologies.
At Alegra, we feel that languages are the gateway to new cultures and to a greater and better understanding of a global world; languages transmit culture and shape it at the same time. In a global world, knowledge of various languages will allow our students to opt for more opportunities and to understand other mentalities.
Our students have the desire to learn and to know. The volume of knowledge is duplicated every five years so we want our students to learn and to keep up to date, whilst enjoying their studies and the new knowledge about the world around them.
Is essential to our work; the ability to handle conflicts and minor failures, to be able to respond under pressure, and to satisfactorily manage interpersonal relationships.
Understood as being a service and a desire to influence society; we want our students to be leaders in leading professions in the future and to promote respect and progress for all.
Sports and games are essential. They not only strengthen the body but also foster values such as overcoming difficulty and the need for teamwork. Sports in our academic environment are a means to build the skills, motivation, and confidence of our students.
We want our students to grow into positive, responsible, people who can work and cooperate with others. Our students develop the skills to be sensitive to the needs and feelings of others and to show respect for people of other cultures and religions.
