In the Early Years (from 3 to 5 years old), part of the Infants stage of Prep School, we follow the English National Curriculum at Alegra: a rigorous and balanced academic structure that favors personal and intellectual learning and development. Our students from both Nursery (3-4 years old) and Reception (4 to 5 years old), are completely immersed in the English language in an environment that promotes and builds on personal confidence from the very first day.
As s a School that delivers the British Educational System, we undergo an inspection by the National Association of British Schools (NABS), every six years. NABS is committed to assuring that schools comply in accordance with the quality standards of British Schools around the world.
Learn & Play
At Alegra, we believe in the educational model of Learning through play for children from the age of 3. Our children learn through play and actively participate in the well structured and well planned activities our teachers arrange for them. Because of this, the teaching and learning we deliver out in this stage is founded on the principle of allowing children to experience learning for themselves. Through experiences, they learn naturally and at their own pace;we strongly believe in the hands on methodology which translates into learning by doing and not only through watching, reading or memorising.
Creativity and Critical Thinking
The English National curriculum is designed to develop and promote a critical and creative way of thinking. All areas are imparted with the objective that the pupil –at their own level– has the ability to opens their minds to critical and creative thinking. This academic system promotes discussion and debate, from Early Years pupils are encouraged to expose and argument their thoughts clearly in front of their class.

At Alegra, the classroom extends to the outdoor environment. Children are encouraged to learn in all available spaces around the School. . Outdoor learning is known to enhance academic performance, ensuring the health and well-being of our children whilst delivering a well-balanced curriculum which allows for maximum development - both personally and academically.

Phonics
At Alegra, we implemented the world famous Phonics System provided by Read Write Inc. This is a learning system which help our children to learn how to read and write phonetically, rather than merely using the written word. In Spanish, we have 29 phonemes whilst in English, there are 44 for the 150 graphemes that represent them.
This system works by decoding the graphemes and pronouncing the correct phoneme. The Phonics Read Write Inc. System was developed by Ruth Miskin, one of the most respected and well known educational leaders in the United Kingdom. Her methodology is implemented and utilised in thousands of Schools in and around Great Britain, with the core goal of aiding children to read fluently and to speak and write confidently.
Observational Assessment
In the Early Years
Observations from our teaching staff is key to understanding the progress being made by each and eveyone of the children in our care. . This is an essential element of the daily work of our teahers as it allows for the future planning of their academic journey. Parental support is positively encouraged and necessary for children to advance in School.
